Thank you :) ARAGORN His Names and their Translations: Estel (hope), Elessar, Elfstone (by Galadriel and the people of Gondor during War of the Ring because of emerald broach he wore which was actually given to him by Galadrial who had given it to Celebrian and who in turn gave it to her daughter Arwen - he took Elfstone as his royal name), Dunadan, Isildur's Heir, Longshanks, Renewer, Strider (in Bree before War of the Ring), Quenya (equivalent of the name Strider), Telecontar (name of his family), Thorongil (In Gondor because of the star of the ranger he wore), Wingfoot (name given by Eomer) Date of Birth: TA 2931 Date of Death: FO 120 Relations Marriage to Arwen: TA 3019 Children: 1 son: Eldarion and a number of daughters A Short Summary of Aragorn: According to my 2 source books above, Aragorn II was Dunadan, 16th and last chieftan of Dunedan, restorer of the Dundeain Kingdom in Middle Earth and as Ellesar, first King of the Reunited Kingdom. As heir of Isildur, he was raised secretly in Rivendell and known as Estell till age 20 when Elrond revealed to him his true lineage. Aragorn then went off into the wild for nearly 70 years. He fought against Sauron in many ways and learned the customs of various people until he was the hardiest and wisest man of his time. During this period, he served in disguise Thengel of Rohan and Ecthelion of Gondor. In Gondor he was known as Thorongil because of the star of the ranger he wore. His greatest feat was a raid on Umbarn in 2980 in which he destroyed a large part of the fleet of the Corsairs. In 2956, he met Gandalf and the 2 became close friends. In 3017, after 13 years of intermittent searching at Gandalf's request, Aragorn captured Gollum. The next year, he met Frodo and hs companions at Bree and helped them get to Rivendell. Aragorn was 1 of 9 companions and led the Fellowship after Gandalf fell in Chazad-dum. During War of the Ring, Aragorn was one fo the leaders of defense at the Battle of Homburg. During time in Rohan, he and Eomer became friends. Then with Legolas and Gimli and a group of rangers, he took the Paths of the Dead. As heir of Isildur, he caused the Dead to obey him and defeated the Corsairs at Pelingar and captured their fleet, then brought them to Minas Tirith to save it. After the War of the Ring, Aragorn became King of the Reunited Kingdom and Lord of Western Lands as Elessar Telecontar and married Arwen, daughter of Elrond. During his 120 year reign, he extended the borders of hsi kingdom and re-established the long-absent peace and prosperity. In addition to the wisdom he gained through his long period of fighting Sauron, Aragorn possessed Elven-wisdom and the foresight of the Dunedain. It was said with justice that in him the nobility of the Numenoreans of old was restored. Aragorn met Arwen when he was 20, just before he departed from Imladris. He loved her from that moment and they plighted their troth in 2980. Elrond however, though he loved Aragorn as a son, would not consent to marry hsi daughter to any man who was less than King of both Gondor and Arnor and so the two did not marry until after the War of the Ring. From the time it was forged in 3018, Aragorn bore the Sword Anduril and before then, on occasion, he bore the Shards of Narsil. ARWEN Translation of Arwen: Royal Maiden Born TA 241; Death FO 121 Relations Marriage to Aragorn: TA 3019 Children: 1 son: Eldarion and a number of daughters A Short Summary of Arwen: According to my 2 sources above, Arwen is the Eldarin Princess, daughter of Elrond and Celebrian - she is the fairest of all maidens in the Third Age in the likeness of her foremother, Luthien. For nearly 3000 years she lived in contentment in Imladris and Lorien until in 2951 she met Aragorn in Rivendell. In 2980 they plighted their rroth on Cerin Amroth and after the War of the Ring they wed and Arwen became Queen of Gondor. She bore her husband 1 son and a number of daughters. However, by marrying Aragorn she chose not to accompany her father over sea at the end of the Third Age and thus became mortal. After Aragorn died in FO 120, Arwen went to Lorien where she died next winter. Her grave was made on Cerin Amorth. Arwen was noted for her dark beauty, said to resemble that of Luthien. Because of this beauty, which was never again to appear among the elves in Middle Earth, she was called Undomiel or in Westron - Evenstar and she was known as the Evenstar of her people. At the end of the First Age, an irrevocable choice was given to the Half-Elven to which kindred they;d belong. Elros chose to be of Mankind and was granted great life-span and he became 1st King of Numenor. His descendants were long-lived but mortal. Later when they became powerful they begrudged the choice of their forefather, desiring the immortality within the life of the world that was Elves' fate. In this way they began their rebellion which, under Sauron's evil teaching, brought the downfall of Numenor and the ruin of the ancient world. Elrond chose to be of Mankind and became master of Wisdom. To him was granted same grace as to those of High Elves still lingering in Middle Earth - that when weary at last of moral lands, they could take the ship from the Grey Havens and pass into Uttermost West, notwithstanding change of the world. But to children of Elron - also a choice - to pass with him from order of world or if they wed man to become immortal and die in Middle Earth. For Elrond, all chances of War of the Ring were fraught with sorrow. Aragorn restored the majesty and blood of Numenoreans. With Aragorn's marriage to Arwen, their descendants were also heirs of the Elf realms of the western lands. |
