Arwen and Aragorn - Quotes from the Movie
After re-watching the movies, I recorded and typed up below everything Arwen and Aragorn said to each other in the movies. PLEASE DO NOT STEAL - USE WITH CREDIT AND LINK BACK TO ARWENANDARAGORN.COM
Fellowship of the Ring
First time we see Arwen and Aragorn....
Arwen: What's this? A Ranger - caught off his guard? (said to Aragorn while he is searching for the plant that will save Frodo's life)
Scene changes to Frodo who sees Arwen in a bright white light and her face appears beautifully and she says:
Arwen: I am Arwen and I have come to help you - hear my voice - come back to the light.
Arwen: He's fading...he's not going to last...we must get him to my father!
Arwen then explains that she will take Frodo to her father since she is the fastest rider. She speaks to Aragorn the following:
Aragorn: Stay with the hobbits - I will send horses for you.
Arwen: I am the faster rider - I'll take him.
Aragorn: the road is too dangerous...
Arwen: Frodo is dying....if I can get across the river - the power of my people will protect him! I do not fear them.
Aragorn: According to your wish...Arwen...ride hard - don't look back!
Arwen then speaks to her horse Asfaloth to ride fast and then they ride fast from the wraiths and comes across this water path where the wraiths tell her to give Frodo up and she says:
Arwen: If you want him - come and claim him!
Then the wraiths start to come to them and she says some magic words which translate to:
Arwen: Waters of the Misty Mountains listen to the great word! Send waters against the wraiths!
After this the water looms large and they cover the riders and horses but then Frodo starts wreathing and suffering and Arwen sees his suffering and says:
Arwen: No...Frodo no! Don't give in...not now! (and then she speaks) What grace is given me let it pass to him...let him be spared....save him. (which is so beautiful because her grace is that she is immortal and she's asking for that grace to be given to him to save him.)
--SCENE CHANGE---
Boromir was admiring the Sword of Narsil (Aragorn's ancestor's sword) when Aragorn appears and says it's just a broken heirloom and while he puts it away it falls and as he replaces it, Arwen appears and says to him:
Arwen: Why do you fear the past? You are Isildur's heir...not Isildur himself....you are not bound to his fate.
Aragorn: The same blood flows in my veins...the same weakness.
Arwen: Your time will come....you will face the same evil and you will defeat it! (she then speaks in elvish tongue which translates to:) The shadow does not hold sway yet...not over you....not over me.
--SCENE CHANGE---
Arwen and Aragorn are standing on a gorgeous bridge in Rivendell called Amon Hen and this is where she tells him she is his and will give up her immortality for him.
Arwen: Do you remember when we first met?
Aragorn: I thought I had strayed into a dream.
Arwen: Long years have passed....you did not wear the troubles you carry now...do you remember what I told you?
Aragorn: You said you'd bind yourself to me - forsaking the immortal life of your people.
Arwen: And to that I hold! I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the Ages of this world alone....I choose a mortal life. (and while saying this she gives him the Evenstar necklace)
Aragorn: You cannot give me this!
Arwen: It is mine to give to whom I will....like my heart. (and then they kiss)
THE TWO TOWERS
It is nighttime and Aragorn is awake and smoking his pipe and remembering something about Arwen (below):
Arwen: (this is said with her voice in the background to show he remembers this) The light of the Evenstar does not wax and wane...it is mine to give to whom I will...like my heart...sleep.
Then it goes into a flashback to when he was with her in Rivendell. He's lying asleep (half-asleep?) on a chaise lounge and Arwen is in front of him close to him and he opens his eyes to find here there. He says:
Aragorn: I am asleep - this is a dream.
Arwen: Then it is a good dream. (she then gives him a kiss and then stands and walks out to look out onto Rivendell. Aragorn then speaks to her:)
Aragorn: You told me once this day would come.
Arwen: This is not the end....it is the beginning. You must go with Frodo...that is your path.
Aragorn then stands and walks over to Arwen and holds her, putting his head to hers and says:
Aragorn: My path is hidden from me.
Arwen: It is already laid before your feet...you cannot falter now....
Aragorn: Arwen......
Arwen: If you trust nothing else - trust this - trust us. (she then touches the Evenstar
necklace that Aragorn now wears and looks up at him and they kiss.
Flashback ends.
This is from the scene were Eowyn asks about the Evenstar necklace Aragorn wears. She says:
Éowyn: Where is she? The woman who gave you that jewel?
Then it goes into flashback mode where Aragorn and Elrond are together - this part doesn't do Elrond's character justice - he's a loving father who doesn't want to see his daughter die for anything less than everything Aragorn is and should be. Keep in mind he loves Aragorn as a son too since he raised him)
Elrond: Our time here is ending....Arwen's time is ending...let her go....let her take the ship into the West....let her bear away her love for you to the Undying Lands there to be evergreen.
Aragorn: But never more than a memory....
Elrond: I will not leave my daughter here to die...
Aragorn: She stays because she still has hope!
Elrond: She stays for you! She belongs with her people...
Aragorn then goes and speaks to Arwen and says:
Aragorn: You have a chance for another life....away from war...grief...despair...
Arwen: Why are you saying this?
Aragorn: I am mortal...you are elfkind. It was a dream Arwen - nothing more...
He then tries to give the Evenstar necklace back to Arwen but:
Aragorn: This belongs to you....
Arwen: It was a gift - keep it....
END OF FLASHBACK AND RETURN TO EOWYN'S QUESTION:
Aragorn: She is sailing to the Undying Lands with all that is left of her kin.
Later when Aragorn fell over that cliff and is floating down that river and washes ashore. He looks
1/2 dead and he has a dream of Arwen who says to him in this dream/vision:
Arwen: May the grace of the Valar protect you. (and it it looks like they might kiss but then his horse comes and I think he does the more kissing/nudging LOL! :))
Back to Rivendell, Elrond and Arwen are speaking as it is time for Arwen to almost leave.
Elrond: Arwen...it is time...the ships are leaving for Valinor. Go now - before it is too late.
Arwen: I have made my choice...
Elrond: He is not coming back...why do you linger here when there is no hope?
Arwen: There is still hope.
Elrond: If Aragorn survives this war, you will still be parted. If Sauron is defeated and Aragorn made king and all that you hope for comes true - you will still have to taste the bitterness of mortality...
As Elrond speaks, Arwen sees in a vision what her father speaks of. She is Aragorn's queen
and dressed in black. Aragorn had become a great kink but has died and now lies in some kind of cement tomb top(?) with a crown (he has white hair). People are around paying
their last respects and she is crying. Elrond continues (a beautiful passage about Aragorn):
Elrond: Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time...Aragorn will die and there will be no comfort for you....no comfort to ease the pain of his passing...he will come to death - an image of splendor of the kings of men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world.
Now Arwen sees Aragorn as stone carving (monument?) and she stands before him with a lonh black dress and veil.
Elrond: But you....my daughter....you will linger on in darkness and doubt as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell....bound to your grief, under the fading trees, until all the world has changed and the longer years of your life are utterly spent.
Arwen then sees herself walking alone through the empty woods of Lothlorien.
Elrond: Arwen....there is nothing for you here....only death....
Arwen then cries and Elrond sits next to her and holds a hand to her cheek and says:
Elrond: Do I not also have your love?
Arwen: You have my love, papa (ada?)... (she says crying and hugs her father - her parting from him - whether to mortality or to the undying lands is extremely painful for Elrond)
